The Fox River in Wisconsin, flowing into the southern end of Green Bay on Lake Michigan, hosts one of the most famous trophy walleye runs in the Midwest. Each spring, large numbers of walleye migrate from Green Bay into the Fox River to spawn, creating outstanding fishing opportunities for anglers.

The Fox River walleye run is particularly well known for producing large trophy walleye, with fish over 10 pounds caught each year during the spawning migration.

During the spring run, anglers target walleye along the river’s deeper channels, current seams, and rocky spawning areas. Fishing activity often concentrates around the De Pere Dam, which acts as a migration barrier and gathers large numbers of fish during the peak of the run.

Unlike some Great Lakes rivers that are primarily boat fisheries, the Fox River offers both boat fishing and shoreline opportunities, allowing anglers to cast jigs along current seams and deeper holes.

Because the river often carries stained water and moderate current, anglers commonly rely on jig and soft plastic combinations that provide enough visibility and vibration to trigger strikes from aggressive spawning fish.

The Fox River run typically begins in March and peaks in early April, making it one of the most anticipated fishing events in the Green Bay region.

With its strong walleye population and consistent annual run, the Fox River remains one of the premier spring walleye fisheries in the Great Lakes region.
